the land
In the spirit of honouring the ancestors and the first residents of this land who continue to call this place home I acknowledge with respect and action that this land, know as mohkinstsis (blackfoot), kootsisáw (t'suu t'ina), wincheeshpah (stoney) and otôskwanihk (Cree), is the home to the traditional territories and oral practices of the Siksikaitsitapi (the Black Foot confederacy) and is comprised of the Niitsítapi (the real people) including the Kainai (Blood), the Piikani (Peigan), and the Siksika (Blackfoot), as well as being home to the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Îyârhe Nakoda, Stoney Nakoda Nation, (including the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations), and is also known as Treaty 7 territory. Additionally the City of Calgary is also home to Metis districts 5 & 6.
