Territorial acknowledgement

In the spirit of honouring the first residents of this land, their oral practices, culture, and relations who continue to call this place home I acknowledge with respect and action that this land, know as mohkinstsis (Blackfoot), kootsisáw (Tsuut’ina), wincheeshpah (Stoney) and otôskwanihk (Cree), is the home to the traditional territories and oral practices of the Siksikaitsitapi (the Black Foot confederacy) and is comprised of the Niitsítapi (the real people) including the Kainai, the Piikani, and the Siksika nations, as well as being home to the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Îyârhe Nakoda, Stoney Nakoda Nation, including the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations, and is also known as Treaty 7 territory.

Additionally the City of Calgary is recognized as home to the Metis Nation of Alberta districts 5 & 6.
