what is in a name…

ōtē nīkān (o-tay nee-gan) is swampy cree for the future.

ōtē nīkān Wellness is a focus on wellness for our future.

The name is inspired by traditional teachings that speak of the future as being us right now, but it is also our children and our children’s children. When we look to the wellbeing of our future we see ahead seven generations, and some of our elders say that the seventh generation is actually us coming back around.

Centring the care and wellbeing of the health of our minds, bodies and spirits we are taking care of our human kin now and therefore our future generations.

ōtē nīkān is also hope. Hope for the future and for nature. Our traditional teachings speak that we humans are nature, not separate, so by taking care of human ‘beings’ we are also taking care of nature. This care hopefully gives us the space to grow our understanding of our interconnectedness and will guide us to be better relatives and stewards of this earth.
